I’ve really never watched reality shows, but from what I’ve gathered, The Real World is basically about people alternately partying or being dicks to each other. I think Sydney’s daydream captures that well enough.
I think most shows could be improved with the addition of super powers. Just imagine American Gladiators with super powers, or America’s Next Top Model where one of the models can secretly make the other ones binge eat or crap themselves on the catwalk. Well, I wouldn’t watch the show, but the youtube clips from them would get 20 million hits in a week.
On the other hand, if Mike Rowe showed up for a job and asked “So what do you do here?” and the reply was “I teleport all this garbage in to the sun with my mind!” >VOOP!< And Mike was all “Well… I guess I’ll go then.” That would actually be fairly detrimental to the entertainment value of the show.
Oh, and I left comments on by accident but then I figured, what the hell, but then it turns out I’ve somehow hidden the comments when I was screwing around in the CSS, so comment away if you like and I’ll see if I can fix that soon.

nice article, keep the posts coming
I’ll have to go back and read all your previous posts now.
I just found this place, really hope sometime in the near future you pick up the pace from once a week to something a bit more frequent. Good stuff you have here.
Hey, I can’t view your site properly within Opera, I actually hope you look into fixing this.
Really? It looks fine to me in the latest version. There’s a margin or two that is off but other than that it seems fine. What are you seeing that’s broken?
Hello and funny stuff so far. That would make the poor guy lifting weights get depressed I think.
Well he’s a super too, that’s a 5′ cube of rock he’s lifting. He’s just not as super, which will be one of the important elements of the story.
Yay! Go Seattle Douchers!
Here’s my best engineering analysis in case anyone cares. It doesn’t matter if that little piece of metal SAYS 16 tons. There’s no way it is, if it is made of any combination of substances to be found on the periodic table at atmospheric pressure, the heaviest of which is an alloy of osmium and iridium with a density of 22.5 grams per cubic centimeter. Unless she’s actually like 10 feet tall (which would make the guy 13 feet tall). But even then, the rock would still be way heavier because it would be that much bigger too. Unless it’s made of foam or something. I would estimate, if the rock is roughly cubical, that it has 50 times the volume of the pyramid shaped piece of metal so the difference in densities would have to be great indeed for it to not be much heavier. And me, I can balance about 40 pounds on the tip of a finger (yes, I have tried) but if it was shaped like that cube of rock I don’t think I could lift even 100 pounds like that over my head, and it’s not my strength that even limits it, it’s my own body’s weight. Do you have any idea how hard it would be to get something that’s 5 feet by 5 feet by 5 feet and heavy over your head all the while keeping your center of gravity over your feet? He’d probably have to start off lying flat on his back, bench press it up, carefully sit up while holding it up, and then get to his feet with a magnificent hop.
I actually plan on addressing “super hero physics” to some degree, for instance there’s a reason that some supers can pick up a car by its bumper without the bumper ripping off, and some can’t, even if they’re both the same strength. Now, assuming the guy in the picture is the latter type, he still could tip the cube of rock towards him, then slide under it while’s it’s at an angle.
Of course, all that is moot, as we’re looking at her daydream, not her remembering a show that she saw, and we’ll come to find out that her daydreams are heavily influenced by super hero comics, not so much by physics classes, but I appreciate the analysis. :)
James Kakalios wrote two or three great books that teach physics in relation to superheroes and superpowers in an Einsteinian universe. Good read and I great way to teach physics. I’m reading through your work. Good stuff.
I would also like to mention that if it is osmiridium then it is worth millions of dollars.
Love your work it actully makes me laugh unlike other webcomics lately
Thanks! Hopefully I’ll continue to entertain.
Is the beer barrel guy from “The super real world” a “Captain Hero” reference?
Hmm, I’m not familiar with that reference actually. What’s it from? Or was there a show called Captain Hero?
It’s a character from the show “Drawn Together” which is a parody of reality television shows like “Big Brother”. The main characters are from eight different cartoon styles.Captain Hero is a superhero (big surprise) who looks like he is inspired Bruce Timm’s character designs. I think he actually crushes a beer barrel just like that in the first episode. Here’s an example of him:

Oh yeah, I know who that is. It’s such a (intentionally, I’d guess) generic name that I couldn’t place it. I tried to watch that show a few times and couldn’t get in to it. It was a funny idea but the humor just wasn’t my style I guess. I don’t remember the crushing of the beer keg, but now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure Bender has done that too.
Oh that’s true I forgot about that

Uhm… super emo girl in panel two?
Emo or Goth I suppose. Probably Goth as that’s hot and emo isn’t. Emo’s no good for TV either. Or life.
why is it that EVERY girl in this comic has large boobs EXCEPT the main charictar
Well this page is all daydreams, and the first 2 pages were RPG fantasy. One of the girls in the comic does have a bit of a chest, and in 30+ pages you’ll meet another of the main characters who has an impressive body, but even by that point I’ll have only had 5 women in total in the comic, and they’re of varying endowment. One of the running gags of the comic will be (once I get to that point) that people with super powers look like super heroes, i.e. body builders, action heroes and Olympic athletes, but outside of that group, there will be a variety of body types – I just haven’t introduced 1/5 of the cast at this point.
Nor have we yet found out what Sidney’s power (s) is/are. So it makes it more interesting when she does use it.
salut sur opera ce post est malheuresement decale. Je tenais à vous le signaler
ha? c`est bon de savoir qu`il y a d`autre franco qui lisent ce comics ^_^
somehow the first picture reminds me of Pippi Longstocking ^^
Is anyone else having nightmares now about a super hero edition of Jersey Shore?
No because I don’t watch “reality” shows so it would just be something else to avoid.
all supers in this comic are fantastically photogenic even the main character. ^-^
It is typical of most comics to have them mostly photogenic.
You do tend to overplay the “I’m the only non-curvaceous superheroine on the planet” thing. Again, statistically, useful powers and good looks would be a rare statistical anomaly.
Then again, you don’t keep a beer gut long leaping from rooftop to rooftop… and superhero teams would probably have someone on staff just for giving their less-photogenic team members a makeover (an angle you might want to address with Halo’s group…) and putting them through body-sculpting exercise regimes.
