Grrl Power #1249 – Meet the boyfriends
Hey babe, you didn’t say you were bringing the guy I’ve been having disjointed yet vivid sex dreams about. A little heads up would have helped avoid this awkward situation. But then, that’s what dating is about, isn’t it? A bunch of awkward stuff potentially followed by an entirely different kind of awkward stuff. Assuming the first set of awkwardness wasn’t too awkward and the threshold for proceeding to, let’s call it, advanced awkwardness, was met by both parties.
You might be tempted to assume from the above that my own personal dating history won’t become the inspiration for the next great romance novel.
. . .
Anyway, Frix is a pretty open minded guy and understands what Sydney went through, vis a vis borrowed memories. He’s just fronting for her benefit, which is scoring well if the gigglometer is registering correctly.
The new one is coming soon!
The new vote incentive is up! This is a bit of a weird one as it’s a character that hasn’t appeared in the comic.
It’s my Ifrit Pathfinder 1e monk, Fray! Ifrits don’t really make great monks in Pathfinder, as player characters they get a +2 to Dex and Cha, but -2 to Wis. For monks, Dex is good, Cha is largely irrelevant, but Wis is important as it can add to your AC and also has something to do with Ki points I think. But I didn’t care. I wanted a character with dark blue/gray skin and glowing orange hair, so that’s what I picked. (I don’t think Ifrit even really have dark skin, so maybe she’s 1/4 Drow? Don’t care. I think she looks cool.) Will she show up in the comic? I mean… maybe? Probably in a Dabbler flashback, but who knows?
As usual, Patreon has her in delicto flagrante.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like.

Not bad!
puntastic!!
This pun was *grr*eat!
nah, it was cheesy…grrrrrilled cheesy
It made me *grrr*oan
It was e*grr*egiously bad.
Why *grr*umble?
watching this many lose their “grr”ip makes me “grr”in
Everyone’s *grr*ousing and *grr*iping about this
Ninja hit squads. Ninja hit squads for all of you.
as a Pander, I’d think you’d learn to *grrr*in and bear it :)
Double the ninja hit squads for you.
Just spotted a new Hot sauce that just might be suitable for the comic.
‘Anal Apocalypse’.
https://culturehustle.com/products/anal-apocalypse-the-world-s-hottest-hot-sauce-for-arseholes
It’s their only product that they’re allowing Anish Kapoor to try…
Probably because they made it to be purchased with the intention of giving it to an Arsehole. Then again, if Kapoor buys it for himself, that’s not really “buying it for an arsehole in your life” unless it’s for his own arsehole I guess.
Well, Anish KApoor is an arsehole, so…
Also fake advert; hottes? bleh, thats just reaper chili on it
I wouldn’t really know what’s hottest or not. I mostly liked it for the name…
(My limit is pretty much at regular Sriracha sauce. )
But the guy who runs Culture Hustle does know a fair bit about chemistry and mixing odd stuff. His Black 4.0 is pretty much the blackest Acrylic you can find. The next step up is a certain VantaBlack that Kapoor has the exlusive license to use in art.
My first reaction was, “When did Ariana gain the power to teleport?”
Maybe it’s the scowl.
Freckles is going to learn to stop VORP’ing in on people like that, or she’s going to windup with at least one body with a nose like boxer.
In other punching-relating news, Frix seems unhappy and ready to punch somebody (specific) about it. All in favor, say “Aye!”
I mean, a punch from Sydney probably isn’t going to break anyone’s nose, unless she discovers a new orb power at some point. But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be unpleasant…
A “punch” from Sydney would probably be getting smacked in the face with an orb.
Sydney’s got about the same size and build as my wife, she might even be a little more buff, and I assure you she absolutely could break your nose. I swear she must have been bit by a radioactive spider at some point.
Seriously, when we moved our organ? She was carrying her end of it. Never underestimate small but wirey women.
Farm girl, any chance? My small, but mighty wife trained on throwing hay bales, because that’s what you do as a kid on a dairy farm, regardless of sex.
I like how it took me a few minutes to notice that Harem has a tissue in her nose in the next panel, indicating that Sydney’s punch followed through. :)
Sydles has a fantastic left jab, and her talent for holding people’s eye contact means they frequently aren’t going to see it coming.
…and now I suddenly want to see Sydney ina tournament fighter-style brawl with an angry goose.
Was expecting it and looking for it..
What surprises me is that Daphne even *tried* this..
Syd is well-known for those reflexes of hers, and she even managed to clock the resident super-martial artist one.
If the fist isn’t going to get you, one of the Orbs *will*…
Was thinking the thoughts that were similar, specially not that and not with Sydney
same. but for me I think it was the bun. Ariana always has that bun and blond daphne usually has hers down.
That’s not Blondini, that’s Abby (she stopped wearing her glasses)
A) Why would she stop wearing the glasses?
B) That’s the wrong hair colour for ‘Abby’. It’s peroxide blonde (pale yellow), while ‘Abby’ is platinum blonde (white).
Maybe your screen settings need adjusting.
No idea, but we already saw her without her glasses
Nah, DaveB has made a few art-colour changes already
OK
On what basis do you claim that’s Abby and not Blondini?
Everything about her appearance suggests Blondini (to me, anyway).
Convince me otherwise.
Not attempting to convince anyone, freely admit to probably being wrong
To me, the hair colour isn’t yellow enough to be Blondini, and we have seen Abby recently without glasses (and those are the only things have to suggest Abby)
Ariana’s super powers have awakened.
Sydney is 1,52 m, 5’0″ is antiquated units
Fix is 2,24 m 7’4″ in antiquated units
Garam is between 1,95m (6’4″) and 6’6 ( 2,00 m) he is tall but at my advice a little shorter than Anvil.
Frix is not standing upright. Entering a planet where most people are shorter than he is tends to have the side effect of “So a Frix walked into a door… frame… it did not survive… I have repair bills…”
I can go back to the previous comic, but I can’t come forward from that to this one.
Yeah the pages of this comic can be odd like that.
It’s an issue with the page itself, it’s a bit weird on, specifically, the NEWEST page from time to time. I can’t say I know why
Yes. A gun.
*absolutely childish giggling because I am sleep deprived*
“This is my rifle,
this is my gun,
this is for fighting,
this is for fun!”
– Full Metal Jacket
It’s meek, a more scary one :
Tiens, voilà du boudin, voilà du boudin, voilà du boudin (voilà du boudin)
Pour les Alsaciens, les Suisses et les Lorrains (les Suisses et les Lorrains)
Pour les Belges, y en a plus
Pour les Belges, y en a plus
Ce sont des tireurs au cul
Pour les Belges, y en a plus
Pour les Belges, y en a plus
Ce sont des tireurs au cul
From “Le Boudin” aka “March of the Foreign Legion” keep your kepis clean please
The french have way too much pent up aggression.
Their national anthem isn’t very soothing either.
No wonder they spend an entire year executing people.
Every time the recruits in “Girl’s Power” (a comedy romance drama about Chinese Marines in Taiwan) do one of their marchy songs, keep waiting for them to finish that chorus (they never do, just the first part)
{OOHO i’m a skitzophrenic as happy as can bee}
{all abed inside my head}
{is me and me, and MEE; heheee}
Poor Harem, when will she learn not to teleport so close to Sidney.
Why would she do that? It’s too much fun
It’s fun until someone loses an eye
Well this time she got a bloody nose.
Then she can have a copy that wears an eyepatch and a pirate outfit.
From “grr” to “ARR!”
Sydney was supposed to have reset her startle response to summon the shield orb after the elevator insident.
She got it reset back to factory default because of Lapha introducing bloatware into her system.
Totally worth it.
Someone received some payback…
What payback? What has Daphne done to Sydney to warrant repeatedly being punched in the face?
This is not the third time this has happened, it’s time for Daphne to get her payback
Well, when Daph implied that Syd was obligated to bewb-flash the team, there was a panic implosion, and she didn’t appreciate getting tased. If they’re keeping score, I hope it’s settled.
I’m curious as to what got Syd motivated to study the boring stuff? Another lasting influence from Lady Lapha-lot?
It’s probably on the required reading list for anyone in ARCSWAT who’s capable of levelling city blocks.
Maybe it is one of those manuals in the form of a comic book. Not that Sydney would need it but, you know, comic book.
Kinda surprised Daph is still getting sucker punched by Sydney. I figure she’d at least be ready for it by now.
Despite Harem learning that surprising Sydney means “ouch”, she just can’t seem to resist jump-scaring her. Which still means she’s getting punched. Plus the stupidity of leaning in your face while scaring someone like Syd just deserves getting a tissue up the nose!
Harem needs to work on her reflexes. She can teleport, she should have an easy time dodging, and by now she should definitely be ready for Sydney’s punchyness.
She once bragged not even Maxima could catch her – but apparently Sydney can?
So what is sticking to Daphne’s face in panel 3?
From what I can tell. It’s a wad of tissue shoved up her nose. I do it sometimes when I get a bloody nose. The implication is that Sydney fired off that punch she’d gotten ready.
A tissue for the bloody nose that occurred a split second after panel 2.
Tissues in her nostril, to stanch the bleeding
They really need to discuss impulse control with Sidney again.
Not that I mind Harem getting a punch or two…
Now, serious question: WHY would they haul the lizard guy to Earth?
Shouldn’t he be up before a Xevoarchy court?
In a military unit, whose base was recently infiltrated by hostile forces, reacting physically and violently is not a bad thing. If Daphne doesn’t learn to stop startling people, she deserves every nosebleed she gets!
Technically Earth isn’t a Xevoarchy member, a pre FTL planet with some secret contacts with local hidden agencies but but not a full on member so their actions may not be a crime to the Xevoarchy directly. However more concerning is the fact Lapha was just on Dabbler’s like cabinet of decorations rather than an interrogation room with Arc Dark and military personnel questioning her. Sidney too should be asked how much she remembers about Lapha, the slave trade that may include humans, etc…
The fact Graham looks to be casually walking here with minimal security escort is confusing. All rather casual looking.
Graham is shackled. I thought he was possibly taken to Cora’s ship to be deported.
Cora was the one who brought him to Dirt
ok, Frix was there when the got him out of the dorm room. other than play-acting to get Sydney riled up why are we engaging in this deep male communication now? its supposed to be done right at the start so the dominance positions can be established. my going theory is Cora refuses to allow her ‘crew’ to engage on this level in her presence as the information content overloads her gear.
this post may contain sarcasm. please read responsibly.
orange jumpsuit, cuff…heh. Thing is, dropping off or is Frix here to pickup then drop off at an appropriate facility.
Archon is currently being considered the appropriate facility, as he is suspected of committing crimes in the USA. Off to super-power holding for him.
But he didn’t. Lapha did, not him. Unless you are counting his participation in the attempted kidnapping of Max during the New York Tourists arc, but they have no proof of that other than Sidney/Lapha’s memories and I doubt that would be enough to convict on earth.
I do understand why he was still on Cora’s ship for the trip to earth. The first priority would be getting Lapha and Tenri reunited with their respective bodies, then worry about transporting Garamm to jail. But why was he walked inside Arcon, where as soon as he set foot on US soil a whole host of laws suddenly come into play? Why not just question him in the brig on Cora’s ship, or in some the-US-but-not-really place like Guantanamo?
He was found holding the victim of a bodynapping. US law may not be fully caught up to the demands of alien tech, but at the least, the stolen body is valuable enough for a felony.
Plus he’s part of a conspiracy to commit Sidneynapping. Every member of a conspiracy is usually chargeable with all of the offenses of the conspiracy.
Finally, Garam may have legal defenses, but there’s probable cause to take him in.
But none of that was *on* *Earth*. There’s no way he could be tried for those crimes here. He was in a foreign jurisdiction, he hasn’t been charged with any crimes on Earth, there’s been no extradition. This is just kidnapping.
Some of it was on Earth – the conspiracy part was on Earth, which gives jurisdiction for at least THAT crime. Also the past crime in New York would still be able to be used.
He may not have been on Dirt at the time, but he was directly part of it (holding Tenri hostage)
You kidding?
Kidnapping, Assaulting a Federal Agent, International Espionage, Divulging Classified Information, Attempted Murder, Extortion, Grand Larceny, False Imprisonment, and that’s *just* what was on Earth alone.
(Under federal law, as party to a conspiracy any felony offense committed in the commission *of* said conspiracy is applied to *all* co-conspirators. Laptha’s threat to kill Sydney if not released? Yeah he’s on the hook for that as much as she is.)
He did, insofar as he is an accessory to the kidnapping and detainment of Tenri. and an accessory to Lapha’s plan.
Although whether that would stick jurisdictionwise is unclear, but even by Xevarchy laws, he’s at least guilty of a crime of using that object to kidnap Tenri (or being an accessory at the very least)
So no matter what, Garamm did commit a crime. Even though I adore him as a fun henchman with real Minion 21 vibes (post-24’s death).
And yes Dudeman is right about several of the other charges. Not sure where the grand larceny comes in though (people are not covered by larceny, that’s kidnapping, unless you mean the orbs I guess?). I’m assuming the extortion charge is because he was an accessory to the underlying crime even if he had no knowledge of Lapha’s extortion attempt. I’m not sure an attempted murder charge would stick though, and neither would divulging classified information. And probably not international espionage either, although I can see why he would try throwing that at the wall to see if it sticks.
This is not the first time this Dimwitted Duo have committed crime on Dirt (remember the time they tried to kidnap Maxi?)
Yes I wrote that in a different post. I’m just responding to what Dudeman said about THIS incident.
Didn’t see the other post at the time of making that post :(
It’s made pretty clear that Tenri’s body is closer to a valuable mobility device than strictly her physical “person”.
Given the costs involved that seems like Grand Larceny to *me*.
Oh and also – Laptha threatened to functionally kill Sydney – rendering her permanently vegetative is functionally just as much murder as it is anything else.
Further, the nature of Sydney’s orbs and their connections to Nth Tech is explicitly classified. Gaining access to the thoughts and memories of a person *with* high level classified access seems pretty clearly like espionage to me, and divulging those details, intentionally are not *is* still leaking classified material.
His Earth-bound crimes were the activities in New York. Conspiracy to abduct a federal employee: 18 U.S.C.§1201(a)(5), 18 U.S.C.§1201(c). 20 years – life. He counts as a foreign national operating in U.S. jurisdiction, right? Federal law has jurisdiction.
Yep! He would be guilty of conspiracy for all those crimes he was henching for Lapha on, and federal law has jurisdiction, yes. Especially since both criminal actions were against agents of the federal government (first Maxima, then Sydney).
And yes, technically speaking, he’s a foreign national by the legal definition, since he’s not a citizen of the US nad not lawfully admitted for personal residence. 8 USC § 1101(a)(20)
Ah the problem of getting a dump of someone else’s memories of someone else’s relationship and then having your current relationship meet the dump memory relationship.
Only with super heroes or people dealing with lots of magical nonsense!
We don’t know the actual boundaries of their hypothetically open relationship. One presumes that Frix and Cora are still together, but perhaps random hookups with people sans even a text heads up may be outside those boundaries.
Still though, yeah, I can’t see even an actual monogamous couple having a fit over inadvertent memory sharing of sex. So definitely more of a game for Sydney to enjoy than anything else.
But why take him to Earth?
I can understand why NOT taking whatshername off Earth, she’s now got a whole fuckton of info Max et al would really like to keep private. But did Garham cop a space plea bargain in space court to get jail time on Earth to be near her, or what?
Took me a while to recognize Harem’s bloody nose in panel 3, LOL.
Sydney is trying to be sandwiched between two big maliens.
Hope she took her potion.
I get it’s for the joke, but Frix getting all territorial is a bit out of character. He’s still part of Cora’s space harem, and Sydney was working on getting into a throuple on Earth (did we see how that turned out, btw?)
I think it’s more he’s protective of Sydney’s safety since he does like her a lot, and Garamm indirectly was involved in what happened to her via Lapha’s plan, more than being jealous of a dream.
Although he did turn down sex from the goblin tinkerer girl, so maybe he is, since with Sydney he’s become very exclusive.
I think he was pretty clear that while he wasn’t opposed, it wasn’t a smart move to stress somebody who could casually cut tanks in half.
That’s what he told the goblin girl, it doesn’t mean that it was actually his thoughts
I read it more as ‘he’s done that sort of thing in the past, but now that he’s in a relationship with Sydney, who is not good at the idea of polyamorous relationships, he’s refraining from doing it anymore because he really likes her and wouldnt want to do anything to hurt her emotionally (he did see her reaction when Dabbler gave a hello grope to his package). Like Cora said in response to Sydney’s query, her crew are all ‘good guys.’
I think he used the ‘Sydney can cut tanks in half’ excuse more as a means to keep the goblin girl (Prinrin I think) from being more insistent, rather than because he was worried about Sydney doing anything to him.
Dave’s post under the comic seems to indicate that Frix is just doing it for Sydney’s benefit.
You would think Harem would be used to that reaction when she appears that close to people, especially considering the amount of military personnel she works with who may or may not have some PTSD – and Sydney is specifically one of them.
Why is Lapha’s accomplice not in contention?
Nothing wrong with Sydney being a little vain here and enjoying her partner being all protective.
One of these days, Sydney’s immediate violence in response to someone porting right up to her is going to teach Harem a valuable lesson about not letting her guard down around people she considers allies.
Apparently Sydney’s self-reprogramming from page 122 wore off at some point.
Is Abby wearing a Halo-shirt? Bet she won’t if she gets punched… again
It is her own (Harem) logo.
Or maybe it’s just a dumbbell
And Harem once again proves that she is just not very good at learning. Even when the thing she is learning is “How to not get punched in the face”.
Sydney never said what the interesting dreams were about
“Tell us more about Giant Liz”
Frix is VERY pissed-off about these morons trying to steal yet another super, much less the one that’s HIS girlfriend. Now that he knows she’s having “those” kinds of dreams about Garamm, he wants to kill and eat him! And I’m sure dropping Lapha’s “prison” into a volcano…
What kind? Sydney just said ‘some pretty interesting dreams’: that could be anything from riding a giant lizard to ‘riding’ a giant lizard, dining out with a giant lizard to being ‘eaten out’ by a giant lizard
If you know Sydney well enough to know she avoids talking about anything sexual, but makes double-meaning comments about it, means more that “interesting.” “I had an interesting dream about you, me, and a toilet snake” or a giant liz… Yeah he figured it out. Her reaction to seeing Garamm alone speaks volumes. Syd never met him in New York, so how else would she have seen him before? Lapha’s memories… She doesn’t react out of fear on seeing aliens or anything protected by the veil. Frix is larger than Garamm and she’s seen scarier things than Garamm.
He’s a big giant lizard, Sydney freaks out about a lot of things the first time she encounters them
She greeted Frix cheerfully and happily regaling him about her dreams, that’s not something she would do in public, even in-your-end-oh’ing, if it was a sexual dream
I figure it was going to turn into a flirt/proposition. She has loosened up *a bit* now that she’s had some exploits of her own, and it doesn’t seem out of place for me if she intended to suggest ‘I’ve been having interesting dreams about a giant lizard and if you have some time we should go help me work through them/forget them/ect’. (Some semi-veiled but-boyfriend-gets-the-hint variation in any case.) Of course, subtlety flew out the window when said giant lizard appeared mid-word like a proverbial spoken devil.
Fairly sure she’s ‘loosened up’ a lot *nudgenudgewinklepickers*
Didn’t Frix find humans being pretty strictly monogamous weird? Why get jealous.
I don’t think he’s jealous, he wants to protect her since they are “special friends”, and this is the second time someone has tried to steal Sydney away in some fashion. Why they brought Garamm to Archon is the real question, I’m sure there are several planets that would love to take them in for a “hand shake and a friendly talk” AKA “Book ’em, shook ’em, cook ’em” behind a set of laser bars.
As Lapha’s accomplice in this latest scheme, extradition to Terra makes sense.
Extradition? I don’t think Cora’s team has law enforcement credentials on Earth. Anywhere on Earth.
More like extraordinary rendition.
You want him? We’ll get him. Just, don’t ask how.
It might be they brought him along when returning Trendi’s mind back to her body, and maybe Lapha’s body as well? And I’m sure there will be some pointed questions as to who’s trying to steal supers or their mercenaries? A list maybe? If they had a list of who’s who and then someone lands and wants to meet any of the supers, they can tell them to kiss-off if they are on the list. Or Max and Dabbler can “convince” them it’s a really bad idea. As long as this kidnapping attempts keep up, sooner or later one group is going to get lucky. Even if it’s “Mustard man” it’s still wrong.
One could argue that Cora has at least some based on being a liaison between the Xevoarchy and Earth in removing the Fel ship and giving Earth a starter FTL ship via negotiations with the US government.
Plus the US government does have diplomatic ties with the Council, which has a representative of the aliens on Earth, and likely the Xevoarchy there as well.
Laser bars are a terrible idea. You should never use, as your primary means of detention, anything that loses its ability to detain someone in the event of a power outage.
Now, laser bars to back up very tangible real bars, possibly with a side of third-degree burns, is fine.
Just be careful that your secondary restraint isn’t capable of being used to disable or destroy your primary restraint.
Seriously. Just use a hot fence.
For SOME prisons, the appropriate mean of detention is magnetically contained plasma. In case of power outage or when someone is trying to mess with it, the magnetic container fails … which technically means it loses its ability to detain someone but it no longer matters because said someone just sublimated (changed phase directly from solid to gas).
for “trying to break someone out of this detention facility will result in them (and several other people) getting turned into a gas”
I think that would require a modification to laws, at least for a civilian prison. IANAL, but this would likely fall under the prohibition on spring-guns.
Frix is looking sort of stout in panel 4.
He’s developed a weakness for Terran BBQ.
“Riposte grrr” is now my favourite line of this entire comic.
Given his rather casual backing of Lapha in her various endeavors and otherwise not seeming like that bad of a guy, I have a running theory that Garamm may actually have some sort of cultural/biological submission thing that’s working in his favor in terms of not suffering as bad of consequences. Because he _has_ to follow the dictates of his mate, he gets more of a slap on the wrist, the same way that children who are ordered to do illegal things by their parents often get a lesser punishment while the adults get additional punishment for contributing to delinquency.
Laptha only became his mate after the first kidnapping attempt in New York
Touche means that you admit the other person landed a point. Lizard guy surrendered
I see Daphne forgot the “Do not surprise Sydney within her personal space” rule and outcome, huh? xD
Hee! Love the interaction in the bottom two panels! :)
Frix is looking very off-model in panel 4, compared to his first introduction in comic 702. O_o Looks like he’s gained half a foot in width, and his shoulders have acquired quite the slope. Too much bar-be-que? :D He’s also missing his eye-spot, though, and that can’t be caused by good food (or can it??).
Very amused that Daphne still can get punched by a startled Halo. At least this time it was Vogue, instead of Co-ed? Speaking of Harem, when do we get to know what she’s changing Co-ed’s appearance/wardrobe to? I assume it’s more than growing the white hair out and no longer wearing the glasses, anyway. :)
His panda-eyes returned in the last two panels
But panel 4 still gets love for Frix’s ear cocking along with his eyebrow, to clear the sightline for some serious side-eye.
You’d think Harem would have learned by now not to surprise teleport directly in front of Sydney.
Harem really has to learn to teleport to Sydney outside of her arms reach, inside of an arms reach is the danger zone.
GRRRR!
i hear the grrring back forth sounding like a villager and illager in minecraft talking to eachother XD
What I’m getting from the author notes is that DaveB has had carnal relations with giant space lizards. And you know what? Good for him.
Instead of “cock” you could have also used “armed”
Frix is blowing this, IMO. When your partner has memories that aren’t hers, including memories of having sex with someone she never would have been attracted to in the first place, it’s your partner who needs your attention, not this other bozo.
Yes, Garamm is in those memories. But he has nothing to do with why or how he got there. According to whatever plan they intended to have, Sydney wasn’t even the target of this caper.
Of course that brings up the specter of what would be happening to Garamm right now if MAXIMA had memories of having sex with him, and I have to suppose maybe he’s lucky the plan went awry.
Frixie doesn’t know that they are not Sydney’s memories, or even what they are exactly
Why would Maxi do anything to Gar when she would know they were Laph’s memories?
