Grrl Power #328 – Six cylinder enthusiasm
Sydney recovered pretty quickly from the prior page there, but she’s not one to let trauma get in the way of a callback. It’s not often I throw in a pause panel even though I generally like humor pause beats. A good stare in reaction to someone doing or saying something stupid is usually pretty funny to me, but I tend to cram so much on a page that I never have space for them. In my head, this page and the next were all one scene, but as I started laying it out I realized I had to break it out to two pages which gave me a little extra space. This particular pause is brought to us courtesy of Maxima catching herself and remembering that Dabbler’s alien origins are still classified, and there’s a room full of recruits behind her. I actually almost forgot myself. I’m not sure at what point the people in Arc-SWAT are told. Sydney certainly wasn’t supposed to find out already. Harem knows and she’s only a corporal. Actually the rank of corporal makes some sense. By the time someone hits that rank you’ve mostly sorted out the chaff and the dropouts, and had time to make sure they’re not religiously zealotous or some sort of crazy Earth for humans type. I mean, if they’re on a team with supers they’re obviously ok with a little diversity.
The only thing that doesn’t play right on this page for me is that on the prior one, Sydney was giving this corner of the room a pretty good stare. Though I can tell you as someone with ADD, there have been moments where I’ve looked right past something cause I was concentrating on or expecting to see something else. That may not be ADD, that may just be the way brains work sometimes. Anyway, that’s my excuse. Sydney was looking for some poster or diagram that spelled out why they carry guns and ignored what looks at a glance like an engine block. Oh, and here’s a close up of the stickers on it cause I zoom in too much when I draw:
I’m not sure what those Predatorbusters represent since they obviously haven’t been shooting Predators with that thing. Or have they?
Here’s the link to the new comments highlighter for chrome, and the GitHub link which you can use to install on FireFox via Greasemonkey.
Kudos for turning all the bayonets in the same direction, seen art like that before with the knifes turned every which way. Silly thing to notice I know but what can you do…?
“This is the only gun we feel safe letting you have.”
“Why does it say NERF on it?”
“Do well with this one and we’ll let you have the model with the big RED darts instead.”
Those “big RED darts” typically have a slower velocity than the “Blue” (standard elite colored blue) at least when used in an unmodified Hasbro-Nerf blaster with the Elite average typically around 70 FPS. Also blue darts are half inch, basically a .50 cal. They will fit inside a Mega (red) dart hole.
Can you imagine, not shooting bullets with that monster, but instead, tossing veggies at those spinning knives? Would make KP duty a BREEZE…and/or be EXTREMELY comically hilarious…oh dear god Im getting a visual of it now…Peggy on duty in the kitchen, cackling maniacally as she’s asked to make the salad and fries for dinner…
He he, that may well explain Peggy’s wry smile in the mini-comic.
A literal Salad Shooter.
In nearly every Predator movie a mini-gun is also in it. Only in the two AVP movies were there no mini-guns aka hand carry Gatlings. Just love those.
Carrying one especially that one you would either be in an exo-suit like in “Avatar” or a strong human or mutant human. That is just the gun itself, imagine the ammo train you would need.
Of course Maxima, Stalwart, Hiro, Mr Amorphous etc might not need such a suit.
A very interesting legal conundrum has been pointed out, on one of the older pages. I know few of y’all subscribe to comments, so thought I would bring it to your attention.
Um…. what’s the question? A treaty isnt the same as a law, if that’s the question.
I should probably elaborate. Treaties (if properly ratified) can be considered laws according to the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution. However, the Supreme Court has sometimes said that even ratified treaties arent enforceable against the individual states.
That’s because treaties are for dealing with foreign powers…Other nations. The States are NOT foreign & are supported by the Constitution (as the SUPREME LAW of the Land, above the mere Law of the Land as by treaty or legislation) itself above anything that the government can Lawfully legislate or enforce.
t is more of the ethical issues underpinning the treaty. I probably would have been better saying “ethical conundrum”, baring the fact that the thread initiator had actually posed it as a legal problem.
As I indicated in my reply, there, I am confident that legal issues can be overcome. You simply have to ensure that any pre-existing laws, which conflict with it (including constitutional ones, as may be the case) are amended accordingly. Of course the more layers (international, federal, state, constitutional) the harder it is in practice, but that does not prevent it from happening in principle.
But it is the decisions which would have to be made, in framing the treaty and laws, that are key here. In order to balance the issues of trying to avoid World Super War I against the conflicting interest of discriminating against a minority (supers).
btw
didn’t you mean ‘can i shoot WITH that” not shoot that?
That is the meaning being conveyed. Best rephrased if addressing a literal-minded robot, of course.
sorry writter habits that been banged into my head to be careful at those stuff.
and SITLL make mistakes for that matter
Before I saw the big version of the stickers, I thought they were tiny “No Sydney” stickers. It would tickle me to think that someone already got around to printing a bunch of them off and placing them on likely hazards.
that kinda sorta looks like a mech weapon
why do I feel a food process joke coming on hum where that guy that talks really fast when you need him cuse ya he soo need to talk about that gun LOL no really I want to see the stuff he can clam it does cuse so buyyying what am not a super hero am a werebear and werebears need guns to kill 40 foot demons just saying have you not seen cabin in the woods helllllo big demons
The Spirit of General Chesty Puller would approve.
When he first saw a Flame Thrower he asked “Where do you mount the Bayonet?”
‘kay, gotta love the Gatling bayonets.
Fun factazoid: My AR-15 doesn’t have a bayonet lug (AWB era Bushie), yet my shotgun does. (Mossie 590. Deal with it.)
Phone the Hold!
Is that an Alan Key beside the minigun, on the table that I thought for weeks was the floor?
Does the minigun go together with an Alan Key??
Is it the IKEA minigun?
Or, if you will, the MinatureBladenWheeler?
I too thought it was the floor until I read your post. Now I’m sad. When it was on the floor it looked the size of a small car and suddenly *poof* it’s just an ordinary minigun salad shooter. *sob*
Ah, so *that’s* the point Max was making. I still find it less salient and convincing than the arguments I thought of, which are that guns make reliable, unobtrusive, easy-to-use backup, and can fill in for cases where using powers would be overkill. *shrug*
I don’t know for sure if Maxima can do low-power blasts, but I’m 99% sure Sydney can’t. Even if you can take down the one guy, that doesn’t help much if there are civilians in a 10-foot radius.
Certainly a gun with silencer is lower-profile than the ppo, even if she could tone it back enough to only kill one person at a time and even if they are limited to realistic silencers that only hush the gunshot rather than silencing it like in the movies.
To quote Deadpool “Gun boner ENGAGED”!
Oh my god.
Whatever it is, I love it and I want to shoot it while going “WAHAHAHA! YA DA DA DA DA DA YA DA DA DA DA DA DUBBLE DA DA DA DA DA DA KABOOM! KABOOM!”
Unleash the inner nerd.
Now that would be an awesome powersource for a super power. Just like Dabbler has tantric energy, and Vehemence has vehemic energy, Halo should unlock her nerdic energy!
Oooh, that must be the tool they use for Lasix surgery!
Uh, question. How does that work? Is there a dedicated melee mode? Because for the motor do actually chop the guy, it’d need a lot more torque/general power if you want spinning excavator of doom
‘Started out as a joke’ implies that it currently isn’t one.
This demands storytime.
I’m a bit late but, Finally, someone who also thinks rotary chain guns need to cut perfect holes in enemies
