Grrl Power #1263 – Serendipity-doo-dah
Sydney’s Law of Might-as-Well-Have-Been Intended Consequences states that a superheroine in her civvy disguise tagging along on a first responder’s call will absolutely cause the situation to escalate, forcing her to choose between revealing her identity, doing nothing (which is not really an option unless the super in question is more of an anti-hero,) or ducking behind a port-a-potty to break away and do superhero stuff, then be forced to try and come up with a lame excuse like “Oh, I got separated during the excitement and couldn’t find you.”
It’s not a pithy law, but it is the law. At least if you believe anything Sydney says.
At some point, Max has to come clean with Rowan about her identity, at which point, Rowan will realized he fully grabbed Maxima’s ass and came away unscathed, which puts him rarified company. I have a scene with them that I really want to do, but… I honestly don’t see how to work it out because it would require Max to remain mum about her identity for longer than she should. I’ll have to give it some thought.
I looked up fire codes for this page. I didn’t see a Code 11 anywhere, and the ones I did find didn’t seem to get as specific as trapped “limb,” but I it’s possible dispatch is putting 2 and 2 together, especially if a certain address is a repeat offender. I assume there are regional codes for certain parts of the country that wouldn’t come up elsewhere, like Code 53; Maple Syrup Tsunami, or Code 71; Armadillo Swarm, or Code 86; Hipster Riot due to Infinity Scarf and Flannel Shortage.

Every so often I get the urge to try and draw Maxima all properly shiny, and this… isn’t my favorite attempt if I’m honest. I’ve been sitting on this for a little while doing little tweaks, and decided to finally publish it cause I’m already behind on these. The next one will (almost definitely) resume the trend of including a little mini comic to extend the scene a bit.

I really find this page adorable. Especially with Maxima’s body stance in panel 8. It’s like she’s relaxed enough around Rowan to let down her EMOTIONAL armor as well and not act like a colonel or a superheroine or even have an ‘aura of malevolence’ that the girl at the bar described. She’s acting ‘girly’ and happy, and now it’s not just to ‘save her man.’ :)
It’s just really nice to see another side of her in the comic.

Watched enough fire department chronicles to know just how common and realistic that is.
Should look up the publically available plans for the CDC in the event of “X” things. You’ll be surprised just what they have planned for.
Which is probably just as much nerd debating as actual preparedness. But it also gives them options for unexpected situations. Like the zombie plan. As long as the situation is vaguely zombie-like, they have a starting point.
If shit goes down and your half-assed debate/plan is the only approximate one for the situation on the table, there’s a fair chance it will be used rather than trying to hastily come up with a new one.
Sometimes “ready now” is the most important quality of all.

She has control over her armor level so I’d assume so.
So does Hiro have control btw, considering how he had a menage a troi with two non-super girls from the club. Like Maxima, he probably does (at least from what Cora said) consciously restrain how much strength he uses.

But despite what Zone-tan and many other artworks may show: a normal human man couldn’t get his dick hard enough to fuck Jenny or any other all-metal robot without getting something crushed or FNAFed.
You’re making an assumption that she (Maxima) cannot lower her armor and strength to levels to be able to enjoy sex or have a man enjoy sex with her. Which we know is not true since Maxima has already said that she can lower her armor so she can enjoy a nice warm shower, for example. And as we saw in the Vehemence fight, she can lower her different powers even BELOW that of a base level super by maximizing some other power, and she does have precise control over her strength even if she does sometimes forget that things have weight, since she generally keeps her powers at a ratio of equal parts strength, armor, and speed with minimal for flight and blasts, according to one of DaveB’s blurbs.
And Maxima is not like a robot – she is not made of metal. Her body (and her armor power) is variable level, whereas an all-metal robot has metal at only ONE standard hardness.
Amusingly, the buff least likely to be noticed would be Energy Blast, since it would be all internal.
Buffing Strength would definitely be noticed, as would Armor.
Buffing speed would mean she would move too quickly, even if she tried to be slow. On the other hand, she could make the time stretch out for a reaaaaaaaalllly long time. Probably make Dabbler envious…
Buffing Flight would make her, um, gravity defiant, and VERY light in bed. Rowan might notice she’s weightless or something…
I’m honestly figuring that flight buff is like the speed buff, but for flying. I don’t think buffing stuff makes her no longer able to control the powers though.
And the Energy blast buff was definitely noticed when she blasted the Fel ship out of the sky through the shields. :)
I’d vote against the Energy Blast buff due to the Teen-Maxima incident and the wall at her house.
What about Sydney’s ‘Elixir of Elasticity’? Could that conceal her toughness without removing it?
I mean possibly? We havent seen her having any immunity against magic. But I still think her own ability to lower her powers to safe levels is a reasonable guess.
And I believe the wall incident was the first time she ever used the plasma blast when her brother startled her while she was sleeping on the couch with popping a blown-up paper bag as a prank, before which she didnt even know she had that power. She probably has a lot more control over it now.
There are a few other things we don’t know about her variable/allocatable powers. Yes, there is an absolute maximum number of total points, at some point increasing an ability detracts from another ability. Is it linear, where everything steps up in one-point increments (e.g. 12 points total, allocatable as 0 to six in any one category) or do different powers cost differently, e.g. are there 18 points, but flight costs 1:1 six points equals level six, blast costs 2:1, aka 12pts allocated to reach level six, speed costs 3:1 aka you can get it to six if you literally drop everything else? And now the most important question: Is she forced to allocate all power points at all times? Or can she sit with everything at 1 or less and have the unallocated points just not doing anything?
I would like to point out that one of the other dudes pushed his finger against Max’s hand (as well as all the touching that Rowan has done (and is implied to have done so far), and a rock hard body would have been noticed by now. Clearly she can become ‘soft and yielding’ when need be.
(this in general on top of all the other mentions of how she can ‘regear’ her power focuses)
