Grrl Power #483 – Bloody teamwork
The bloody handprints on the face of the mannekillers was probably a solid clue, but this just confirms it. Pixel recognized the rune on the sword piece, and knows there’s a handful of things you can make using that rune, plus the coloring of the wedge and all that. She was just trying to see if she could get Iza(nagi) to cut himself on it. Which might not have been the most mature thing to do, cause who knows what will happen when the shard gets charged with blood?
Edit: Fixed the wrong handed blood splat, Iza’s tie switching left over right-edness, and colored the inks.

Feeling that it is very likely is one thing. Proving it, irrefutably, is the kind of thing investigators like to do. Plus identifying the type of sword, in question, how to counter the blood magic, and the precautions to take, now all have certainty behind them, rather than educated guesswork.

Well said. A perfect rebuttal to someone who is either claiming to know things about the Grrlpower universe which he/she does not, or a nut case who is more than happy to mix one fantasy world with another and add a heaping helping of magic mushrooms for good measure.
Supposition and fan wank is one thing. We can all indulge in it from time to time, no harm no foul. “I know better than you because I’m more entwined with this fantasy than you,” well, that’s a complete different thing. Seek counseling.

You’re even more amateurish than the rest of us Grey Phantom. Half the point, half the popularity, of comics web or company published is for the fans to geek out, speculate and hype. Because it’s fun. Because that’s what builds popularity. Because that’s how you sell merchandise.
Besides which, Guesticus has a point. Now that blood magic is being thrown in as a “hey, this is a thing!” it opens up for the question of just how many types are there? How impressive WAS it for pixel to actually identify that shard?
Which World/Universe are you talking about?
Both the Grrlverse and our one. They have effectively identical myths and legends. It is just that in the Grrlverse they stem from an actual basis.
I can, off the top of my head think of half a dozen usages of blood in different magical traditions. And that is without dipping into the innumerable fantasy ones. Some of which are drawn from historical beliefs. Any one of which might actually match a power or spell used in the Grrlverse.
In addition to the above, the only people shown to see the hand print are Sydney (who may have overlooked it in the excitement), Maxima (Who is currently having a slumber party with a pile of rubble, the slacker), Mage Guy (Who promptly got distracted by a Mana Void), Katrina (Who was recovering from poison last we saw, and might not have recognized the significance) and Clover (Who was the one who gave the sword fragment to pixel to test)
Also, the Mannequin in the previous page doesn’t have a hand print. Indicating that either it isn’t actually a part of the animation process, or Dave forgot to put it there.

Exacly. I have done these things before and they work kinda like the ads. There is some extra letters to the address at first but then nothing else is shown. It’s normal although it would be nice if it was some text or something that said you did it for -name-. But it isn’t.

I wonder if Iza’s powers have anything to do with turning illusions into reality since, you know, izanagi. I didn’t get the name at first but when I read the DaveB’s comments below the comment I got it.
Pixel, don’t tell them not to get cut ‘after’ you got your friend to poke the sharp bit. Even if they hadn’t already been injured, you had your buddy cut himself already. you don’t test if the big red button destroys the world by pushing the big red button.

Pixel was conducting a test under controlled conditions, where she was confident that she could break the magic in a simple manner. And her supposition was proven right.
As an artefact expert she probably also had other backup contingencies too, in case the easy one did not work.
The other alternative being not to take these minor risks and be unable to advise on how to defeat the enemy. Given that, at that point, they were desperate to find a way of doing that, before teammates started dying, Pixel made a good call.
But, yea, keep the nuclear football out of the hands of people who don’t … oh … poo.
