Grrl Power #1386 – Space 19*69*, hur hur
Everyone’s particular disguise choices will be discussed on the next page, just FYI.
Please ignore the fact that the bridge of the ship looks totally different than the last time Sydney was on it. And also it might probably look different the next time I draw it 600 pages from now. Cora and crew do a lot of upgrades. Or maybe that other scene was set on the backup bridge for some reason? I dunno.
I do sometimes wish I was one of those artists that really enjoyed drawing meticulous technical things, be it cars, mecha, sci-fi corridors or space stations, guns or just cluttered interiors. Or spaceship bridges. But I’m just not. Even when I tried doing stuff like that in the past, like drawing a fantasy library or something full of arcane tomes, I’d get one shelf nicely detailed but then get bored with the tedium of it all and the books would get progressively thicker and the bindings less intricate and eventually the third shelf would have unpacked boxes, presumably of highly detailed books inside. I think there’s some intersection of autism and ADHD that allows people to really dive into elaborate art like that, and my balance is too far on the ADHD side. I’m like, “I should draw a cool arcane college library.” but I get an hour into it and my brain realizes that I can either spend the next 40 hours doing that, or I could draw some half-orc warrioress in a tight top standing in the foreground and unfortunately blocking the view of so many of the shelves.
I’m sure people will wonder about Sydney’s supply of special Dabbler potions, and I suspect that topic might come up later during this adventure.
There is a new one coming soon, I promise!
The vote incentive is finally done!
The update to the TWC image is pretty minor, but the Patreon version has the bonus comic as well as nude versions. I will strive to make the next one more timely.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like.
Pretty sure we know a guy that can refill containers of any liquid.
Which could probably be of infinite value to Cora, right?
I made a spell for that in D&D. I called it Phil’s Rephil. You can refill a container with whatever was in it last, it does not work on magical things or living things. So you can’t have infinite health or mana potions, but something like dabbler’s potion should work since it’s mostly sciency.
There’s plenty of Sci-Fi ships with more than one bridge, or bridges that transform in some way.
So having the bridge of Cora’s ship look different could be because it is different, especially as they appear to be in FTL and not in combat.
or the bridge is just holographic, so Cora can redecorate any time she feels like
Star Trek Prodigy has an episode where the bridge can be holographically reconfigured to look and control like a TOS bridge. I imagine that with hard-light holograms as ubiquitous as Cora’s crew seems to have them, that the entire ship is customized extensively.
I approve of Sidney’s new fit
Sydney’s disguise looks familiar. Have we seen someone of that species before? It looks somewhat like a variance of the second panel of the previous page as well.
As for the special potion. It was already said Frix was familiar with the use of them, no reason why he wouldn’t have stock of it on the ship somewhere. The only reason they needed it via Dabbler before was because they were not on the ship.
With Dabbler giving Sydney the potion, I’m thinking it would be for several reasons-
1; They were away from the ship and therefore the stash (could have gone over and gotten some, but #2)…
2; Dabbler was *introducing* Sydney to the potion, so that she wasn’t surprised by fuzzy features here pulling some random concoction from God knows where and traumatising her with the effects (even if Dabbler didn’t explain what they would be)
And 3; Sydney asked Dabbler for help in that regard, so Dabbler provided the potion,
Joys of modern technology….
3; Sydney asked Dabbler for help in that regard, so Dabbler provided the potion from her stash since they were away from Kora’s ship and she didn’t want Sydney surprised by its introduction….
Tried posting 3 reasons, but phone rotated horizontal then back to vertical and the site wouldn’t let me scroll down my comment….
If you read Asterix and the Falling Sky, there’s an alien character named Toon from the planet Tadsilweny (an anagram of Walt Disney), now maybe he should make a cameo in a future comic?!?
with as cheap as the hardlight is, energy wise…for Cora’s crew\ship, having most interior spaces be made of hardlight with local power to both maintain and link with the rest of the ship would be wildly practical, it would lessen\eliminate any shrapnel from combat, allow for instant changes for any change in crew, and obviously, let you “rearrange” at a whim
Another suggestion to hold an approved-applicant-only contest for the technical backgrounds. Winner(s) will generate 3D files of “technical background spaces” that recur often like this bridge, med-bay, the comic shop, maybe a few conference rooms, a parking lot, the outside of the ship, etc. Maybe different contributors for different spaces. You would just rotate the background image to the angle you want and add the foreground.
I’m sure you have plenty of amateur graphic artists as fans who would love to get their work published here. Not me, sadly; my skills are elsewhere. In addition to a credit line on that day’s comic they would get some sort of reward like a cameo character, maybe one that appears in or around that specific space. Or just pay them, assuming this strip earns money?
That would have been my suggestion too. There are many people who would gladly help David with 3D models to help the comic, some even for free, but most gladly accepting anything in return.
Some artists use the model view almost as it is when detailed enough and close to their style, or barely edit it to make it fit more; and others will only use the models as a canvas for their art (the 3D models are often more basic here), to help them have a more detailed perspective (check Neytirix’s channel on youtoube, the video named “They’re unending” is a good example of what I’m talking about; she’s also a really good artist, but her style goes from “aww that’s so adorbz” to “WHAT IN THE NAME OF BOB ROSS IS THAT ABOMINATION??? Really decent art thought. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”).
Frix, you player! LOL. I would of done the same stunt, ladies love the “just you” statement. Pity Dabbler wasn’t there, her squeal might have matched Sydney’s.
Ok… so I KNOW someone MUST say it… So “Yea for bald Pussy”
Straight to Horny Jail for you!
Pussy obviously has hair enough to muss up to a level Cora notices….
Then again… the neko-variant is somehow Very Sydney..
That’s another ship-shattering SydSqueeal… “They *EXIST*?!! For Real?!!!!!!”
If she’d know beforehand there would not have been a SkinFashion show…..
Argh! Not Cora… Cast listing sez it must be Harem. Cora is as Cora in the cockpit shot.
Panel six, They Might Be Giants, nice.
Just coming here to say that.
Is it? Forhead aliens are a very old trope. Star Trek used it a lot. Straight, not lampshaded.
Took me a moment to get the reference of ‘sex hair’ and Sydney’s appearance with a ruffled mop. That’s a a really sophisticated holo-thingy to display sex hair. Interesting cat girl species. I’m wondering about the environment that would evolve such a slender body but with huge claws. Looking forward to seeing a full body image. If her hands are that big her feet should be correspondingly huge and deadly. Not a species to be trifled with methinks. So, where’s she hiding her orbs?
…now I want to see a show featuring an everchanging bridge/ship. No one directly notices, but one guy (or a few folk in separate instances) observe odd discrepancies.
“Was it always this far to Bay 6? I’m sure the trip was shorter last time…”
“No! Engineering is THIS way. You’ve been here for YEARS, how can you not know this?”
Etc.
>> , I’d get one shelf nicely detailed but then get bored with the tedium of it all and the books would get progressively thicker and the bindings less intricate and eventually the third shelf would have unpacked boxes, presumably of highly detailed books inside.
this has a “the little prince” flavour

I was really hoping for the ‘space’ kobold.
It would be funny if the first was the one picked.
And she was super cute in it!
Same but this one is cute enough. Also I can image that this is easier to draw.
As an artist myself, I discovered the trick to putting insane amounts of detail into every square inch of a drawing. It’s weed. Smoke a lot of weed while you draw, and you’ll have no trouble stippling by hand an 18″x24″ drawing.
I caught that “They Might be Giants” reference. For the unfamiliar it’s part of a song about fads, and part of the song talks about everyone wanting a prosthetic forehead on their real heads
It’s been a year or three since I listened to any TMBG. Is this on a particular Album?
It’s on the Flood album. The name of the song is We want a rock
Either Sydney has done enough cosplay things to operate the big paws or they are going to be a fun source of clumsyness-which…is probably Frix’s idea >.>
Bridge is giving me a mix of Asgard (Stargate) and Moya (Farscape) feels, I do like, but the remodeling does probably explain Coras money problems.
In picking one’s disguise it seems like one would want to pick a species that is just common enough to be unremarkable to see one but not so common that any one would notice if some detail was quite right. “What is this ‘sex hair’ of which you speak? This is the normal hair of my species.”
I wonder if Daphne has 5 choices.
weird question with a probably obvious answer, but are we gonna get a full version of sydneys disguise in the comic? I’m what it looks like.
I’m not a furry but…
…oh wait, I’m totally a furry. Proceed.
Almost everyone is at least a little bit of a furry. Catgirls, obviously, but have you seen how much werewolf erotica there is out there? Frix/HoloSydney is like the perfect sci-fi/fantasy just-exotic-enough couple.
I think what makes a person a furry isn’t liking fur, it’s wanting to have it.
The green orb can generate breathable air, so in theory it could produce a mix of elements…
Honestly, a hard-light Bridge makes a lot of practical sense given all the different body shapes and sizes existing in space.
Looks like an alternate Alari and a Stygian to me!
I see instead of Kobold she went with Kobold.
wonder where the orbs are
So disappointing that Sydney didn’t go with the kobold outfit. That looked so much better than this thing.
Simple solution to the bridge, they are currently in the “flying bridge” used for its magnificent views of surrounding space, where as before they were in the CIC, the Combat Information Center, a heavily protected bridge deep in the interior of the ship designed for survivability when in combat.
So tall and scary is Maxima. Red skin/white hair is Digit. Furry girl is Harem. Halo is yet to choose?
A couple people were saying furry girl was Halo…
I’m pretty sure red skin/white hair is Harem. Furry girl is Sydney. The middle frames of Sydney being overwhelmed by options and Frix deftly fielding the ball when it was put in his court are a flashback. The sex hair is the result of activities between the flashback and the present.
